S.A.V.E. Update - August 18 th

News from the S.A.V.E. Front:

S.A.V.E. Plastics Drive, September 1-8th

- S.A.V.E.'s next plastics recycling drive for type 1 clear, type 2 natural, and type 2 color plastic containers will be from September 1st
to 8th. Please visit our website to see a pictures guide at Savemobile.org Collection events will be from the 1st to 2nd Friday of every 3rd month (March, June, Sept., December), until we can make the program permanent. The next collection event will be December 1st-8th.

E-Rase your E-Waste, September 15 & 16 at Staples

- On Friday, Sept. 15, and Saturday, Sept. 16, from 9 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Helena area residents and businesses will have a chance to
recycle their old electronics at Staples (2930 Prospect Ave). Called "E-Rase Your E-Waste," this electronics equipment recycling event is the first-ever in Helena, and is sponsored by Staples in conjunction with the Montana Department of Environmental Quality, the S.A.V.E. Foundation, the Lewis & Clark City-County Health Department, the Water Quality Protection District, the Lewis & Clark County Public Works Department, and the City of Helena. Trash for Trees, September 23

- Growing Friends bi-annual "Trash for Trees" collection will be Saturday, September 23, at the Northgate Shopping Plaza. S.A.V.E.'s collection at this event will include plastics (same as mentioned above), cell phones, print cartidges, some rechargeable batteries (those from power tools, laptops, cell phone). Funds raised from this collection event are used to purchase trees and plant them in public places around town.

S.A.V.E. Hero of the Month: August

- Dave Warner, a recent Carroll Grad and engineer at the Montana Department of Transportation, is this month's S.A.V.E. Hero for all his
help with S.A.V.E.s educational outreach, particularily with Biodiesel. Dave took an extended lunch earlier this month to bring the Vegi-mobile to an "Exploration Works" summer camp and show participants how to make Biodiesel. He has also helped develop educational material, attended the Sustainability Fair in Livingston, and will run demostrations at S.A.V.E.'s both at the SustainabilityFest in Butte next Thursday.

Volunteer Opportunities with S.A.V.E.:

- S.A.V.E.'s business recycling route runs every Tuesday and Thursday in addition to a variety of projects throughout the week. If you'd like to volunteer to help recycling or help with our office work, please let us know. Also, we are always looking for writters for articles in our Daily Habits newsletter.

Environmental Opportunities:


- The NCAT Sustainability FEST in Butte, Thursday, August 24 The festival will go from noon to 8p.m. with a variety of exhibits, demonstrations, work shops, kids activities, local food and entertainment on alternative energy, conservation and more. - Attending the MWA Convention this December 1st & 2nd MWA will host its 48th Annual Convention at the Butte Copper King (in Butte) this December. A variety of volunteers are needed for everything from greeting attendies to helping to monitor the auction. By working 2 shifts, volunteers get to attend the conference for free! S.A.V.E. Fundraising Drive Continues with $4,000 Cinnabar Grant

S.A.V.E. has received a $4,000 matching grant from The Cinnabar Foundation to help fund our effective efforts to expand recycling in Helena. Your contribution will be matched as we work towards this grant! You can donate with paypal at our website or by sending a check to:
